LIMF BIG BOYS DONT CRY - Jackson’s Lane, London.

LIMF BIG BOYS DONT CRY - Jackson’s Lane, London.

BSL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCE

Adam and Dik are men. But they don’t feel as if they fit any macho stereotype that society seems to offer.

Using potato crisps, puppets, dead bodies and action men they take us into the beating heart of the modern male and attempt to answer the burning question: what maketh a man? Nature or nurture? Mind or body? Cheese ‘n’ Onion or Prawn Cocktail?

Big Boys Don’t Cry, the new show from the makers of Coulrophobia (LIMF2020) described by Total Theatre as an “endlessly watchable, sublimely entertaining double act,” is an emotional and comic story about manhood.

“A fabulous and totally mad adventure” Plays to See (on Coulrophobia)

Find laughter, tears, love and even more love in a personal and honest show that looks inside the dark bag of a real man’s story in a euphoric explosion of colour, dance, clowns and puppets.

“Two performers at the peak of their clowning powers” The Wee Review (on Coulrophobia)

Manly to a fault.

Part of London International Mime Festival. Click here to see the full programme at Jacksons Lane

About this Event

Artist Bio

Jess (They/Them) is a trans / non-binary, multi-disciplinary clown and political actor. They have studied theatre in the U.S, France and the UK. Working professionally in the UK for the past 4 years, most of the roles Jess has performed and auditioned for have been to play cisgender women. Although grateful for the few trans / non-binary roles they have auditioned for, these have all been written by white, cisgender men and the audition populated by cisgender people.

Through experiences of being tokenized, being asked for emotional labour and to seemingly speak on behalf of the Trans* community, Jess has found ways to create more meaningful dialogues with industry professionals, including addressing issues of race and disability.

In this session, Jess will be reflecting on the duality of being oppressed whilst having privilege, sharing ideas of reducing harm and dismantling racist, ableist and transphobic practices within the industry, and how to hold our personal and artistic selves accountable for our work.

Through a non-violent practice, they are determined to examine the industry and institutions they have benefited from. Jess wants to have the conversations that people may avoid in auditions and in rehearsal rooms whilst encouraging curiosity and critical thinking.

There is a box.

You have no idea what it might contain and whether or not you will it to, the only certainty is that it will open.

What mysteries abound? What contaminants, what affliction, what trauma? What might we mortals do with this coil, who are we forced to become?

Part song cycle, part theatre, international icon of stage and song Le Gateau Chocolat has been brewing something daring, something delicious, something dark, a sensory feast: ‘PANDORA’.

Le Gateau Chocolat is a one-man musical phenomena complete with larger than-life vocal talent. For ‘PANDORA’ he is joined live onstage by the Manchester Camerata.

About Le Gateau Chocolat

Le Gateau Chocolat’s work spans drag, cabaret, opera, musical theatre, children’s theatre and live art. UNFORTUNATELY, FOLLOWING THE GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES RELATING TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANADEMIC, THIS PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

PLEASE CONTACT THE THEATRE DIRECTLY FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

Frantic Assembly are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a brand new production, I THINK WE ARE ALONE by Sally Abbott, co-directed by Kathy Burke and Scott Graham.

Two sisters are estranged and bicker over text. Their brittle and aggressive language is pushing them further apart when what they really want is to meet, clear the air and talk about the events that happened when they were young girls that haunt them still.

Josie is not allowing grief to get in the way. All of her focus is on what is best for her son, Manny. She desperately wants him to fly but can she let him go?

There is a person-shaped hole in Graham’s heart and it's driving him to some dark places. When a stranger returns an act of kindness both find themselves opening up and connecting in a way that might just bring a bit of light in. There is beauty in this. This was meant to happen!

I THINK WE ARE ALONE is a bitter sweet and funny take on our ache to connect with those voices we need to hear again, those arms we need to feel around us and those faces we need to see again. It is about letting go and holding on to what we love the most.

I THINK WE ARE ALONE is a delicate and uplifting play about our fragility, resilience and our need for love and forgiveness.

Can Can Cabaret - London

This event is not BSL Interpreted.

Can-Can Cabaret is an evening of theatrical entertainment featuring music, dance and comedy. Kelli Baleta has taken the old style of cabaret and given it a contemporary twist. Fusing together drag, dance and song, Can-Can Cabaret is cheeky, funny and sexy. Laugh til your stomach hurts, adjust your eyes and lose yourself in the razzle dazzle.

BSL Interpreted Performance.

written by Lisa Hammond, Lee Simpson and Rachael Spence

originally co-produced by Improbable and The Royal Court Theatre

Lisa and Rachael want to make a show, but there’s a problem: they don’t have any ideas.

So, who do they turn to? The Great British Public of course!

They make a pact. They’ll go onto the streets, interview people, and whatever story the public come up with – that will be the show. No backing out, no changing what they don’t like. Deal.

Still No Idea is Lisa and Rachael’s quest: a mischievous look at two friends searching for drama, action, and a story to tell. Part-verbatim theatre, part-confession, part-comedy sketch show with a bit of singing and dancing thrown in. Turns out getting the public to write your story is quite an adventure.

Director: Lee Simpson
Designer: Ben Stones
Lighting Designer: Colin Grenfell
